Outside the Vacuum

Today's talk at the Association of Women Business Owners' meeting went well, I think. I had a good time, anyway. It appeared to me that others were getting something out of it. The "snakes" brought a good laugh (if you don't know about the snakes, you need to come to one of my talks).

Before my presentation, three others gave their "three-minute spotlights" for their businesses. One of those was another marketing consultant. Odd combination, I thought, to have her do her spotlight and me do my presentation at the same meeting.

Before she sat down, she said, "I hope I didn't step on Lisa's toes."

I told her she did fine. As I got up to talk, I realized not only did she not step on my toes but our ideas worked well together. In fact, I ended up refering to her short spotlight more than once.

When you're in the "information" business like marketing consultants are, sometimes it feels as if you're working in a vacuum. There are so many different thoughts on how to promote a business or organization, what tools to use, what audience to target. It was nice to know that at least one other person agrees with at least some of the ideas that I carry close to me.
